This summer, I had the honor of serving as one of three jurors for the 29th Annual NO DEAD ARTISTS International Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Art at Ferrara Showman Gallery in New Orleans. For nearly thirty years, this exhibition has been a platform for emerging and established artists, offering visibility, opportunity, and connection within the contemporary art world.
For the 2025 installment, the jury reviewed over 500 submissions from artists worldwide. From this remarkable pool of entries, we selected thirteen finalists whose practices represent a wide range of mediums, voices, and perspectives. The artists hail from across the United States, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom, underscoring the truly international reach of the exhibition.
Since its founding, NO DEAD ARTISTS has acted as a springboard for numerous careers—launching artists into national press coverage, securing gallery representation, placing work at art fairs, and even facilitating acquisitions by museums and other significant collections. Each year, the gallery convenes a panel of renowned arts professionals and collectors to select the newest creative talents, making the exhibition a vital survey of contemporary practice.
I sincerely thank Ferrara Showman Gallery for organizing this enduring exhibition and my fellow jurors for the thoughtful dialogue we shared throughout the process. Most of all, congratulations to the artists whose work will be featured. The exhibition celebrates not just individual achievement but also the vitality and relevance of contemporary art today.
Participating as a juror in this process was both a privilege and a responsibility. It required weighing artistic vision and technical skill while also considering the broader conversation between works that would ultimately shape the exhibition.
